Kastom and History

The people of the Solomon Islands live happily within and with their environment. Their traditional activities and beliefs go hand in hand with care for the environment and wildlife conservation.

The activities and principles promoted by myself through improved village poultry keeping and associated developmental work are also complimentary to the local peoples lives in many ways.

  • Wild jungle fowl are inter bred with domestic chickens to ensure hardiness, survivability and suitability.
  • Substitution of poultry meat and eggs for threatened wildlife as a food source is encouraged.
  • Facilities for improved village poultry keeping are sourced from bush materials and community food gardens without reliance on expensive imported feed and materials.
  • A gift of a small flock of chickens to families which are victims of natural disasters is both a food source and emotional support for the people.
