Feeding

Use Lokol Feeds

Almost every village family has access to a food garden and produce from this garden can be used to feed to the village kokorako every day through the Kai Kokorako balanced feeding system.

Daily feeding of kokorako

One of the most important things to learn is that correct feeding of village poultry will not only improve the kokorako production of eggs and meat but also keep the chickens healthy.

Free choice feeding will be introduced and the villagers will be encouraged to think of the poultry as an extension of their family food gathering duties so that when a meal is prepared for the family the poultry feeding is done as well.

Imported processed commercial feeds are too costly for most villagers and locally grown grain of any sort is not really available in many island villages.

This diet for poultry is based on common locally available produce and fed to the poultry with allowances made for the needs of both age and sex groups.

Kokorako know what sort of feeds they need for a balanced diet so all you need to do is provide some of each food group separately in containers each day and the kokorako will take as much as they want of each food.
